I am an American living in Southern Taiwan at the moment and just experienced my first typhoon. What unbelievable power, such as I have never experienced in my life. Locked into my 15th floor apartment, it felt like an earthquake and hurricane crossing paths, conjuring up power to attack little Taiwan.
It has now become such a tragedy as the death toll and missing people toll rises. These things are never easy to accept and move on from.
I must say though, that I have never met kinder and more helpful people in all my travels as I have encountered here. I have seen such grace and kindness and especially after the storm, I see that people will rebuild, will mourn, and will continue with their daily lives as best as they know how. Even through the storm and all the tragedy, there will remain a certain harmony and peace within the people and I am proud to call this place my home.
